Should I use my makeup sponge wet or dry?
One of the questions that I often get when teaching Makeup Lessons is, ‘Should I use my makeup sponge wet or dry?’ Each option has its merits, and as with many beauty products, it depends on personal preference. It also depends on what you’re using your sponge to apply. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
If you want a natural application, that’s not too full coverage then I recommend you use your sponge wet. Wetting a sponge allows it to become slightly larger and it provides a softer, smoother application. However, it is important to be sure to squeeze out any excess water to prevent too much foundation from absorbing.
Dry sponges offer a more precise, full coverage application of product. For example, if you want your blush to look more noticeable, rather than a soft flush color, then a dry sponge is ideal.
Dry sponges are also great for setting your makeup with loose powder and for ‘baking’.
At the end of the day, it’s all about preference. Just remember that if you do opt for a wet sponge, be sure to squeeze out any excess water. And when using a dry sponge, use it in smaller areas to ensure precise application. Good luck and have fun experimenting with both!
